GrumpyBear has a good idea about making this pan lubing process a sticky. Texasmac's process is a near match for the pan lube process that Barry Darr (old7groove) used to recommend c.1980.
What was old is new again. Thank you texasmac for posting your process. Your photos and narrative make the steps perfectly clear.

That is a really well done article. A few things there all of us can use, even if we don't fully change our ways.
Just about every article you lay on us is good information and the presentation is attractive and easy to understand. Something many authors have trouble with. RSW is another, and praise from him must make you very pleased.  Both of you can have todays, well earned attaboys. Smiley Smiley

Thanks guys,
BTW, a guy on another forum suggested using the insert from a MTM 100 round box and a Silicon baking dish.  The silicon releases the lube without the use of any foil.  Sounds like an improvement to my technique.

I use a non-stick pie pan. I like it better than a cake pan because it's easy to reach into compared to the straight sided cake jobs. On the other hand, there is more lube just sitting out there in the sloped area that has no bullets. No problem, just that it's there doing nothing.

WEll written article.

I just set them in without guidance.  Once in a great while I will tip a few over, but not often. I just hold the block in my hand and push the bullets out with my thumb, gloved thumb or a tool depending on the bullet point.

I use the foam tray from a bratwurst 5 pack and a salvage cartridge trays for spacing. The tray has enough spring that pushing down  after a trip to the fridge breaks them loose and leaves the gruves full.
I'll need to try the heat gun part  on the next batch

I should clarify; I break a row loose with my thumb, then put that row in the bullet box.  On to the next row  Roll Eyes

My lubes are too brittle for that.

Never heard about Gordo giving Ol' Shelton "that" lube formula  Cheesy

If I caught them at just the right temp I might be able to use the table pull method.  I might be able to do it too if I spaced them a little further apart. Once in a while a bullet will break out of the block when I let it cool too long on some lubes.

Somebody (probably Gordo, don't recall) gave a nameless shooter some 600 gr .45 bullets that would improve his shooting at the midrange match we shot at Tacoma. He was a prone shooter.  Bet those helped a lot.  He was probably in better shape having to crawl back up on the berm after every shot  Grin

What is your gooey formula?

Joe,

You should try my lube formula.  I modified some recipes from this site.  It stays sticky and I have never had a problem with it falling out.  Not sure how it would stand up to below zero temps, but I would not be shooting at that temp anyway.

By volume:

3 parts beeswax
1 part anhydrous lanolin
1 part Camp Dry (Kiwi) Mink Oil
1.5 parts Valve and Assembly lube

Pan Lubes very easily.

Jack

The valve and assembly lube makes it slightly pinkish orange.

Never tried to taste it though Joe.

Only Bob Tyler knows the formula and he is sworn to secrecy.  It is some gooey sticky stuff, I can tell you that.
Tried different things with success without knowing why it worked.  Still studying and experimenting with lubes.
