You are very welcome Frank and in all honesty it made me feel like an ass after I went back and looked at the under exposed.

New lead thermometer arrived.  730F max. New lead pot zoomed right up to 900F.   Bad lead pot = bad bullets!

what is 730F max?  The lead pot supposed to be 730F max?

MY pots will go to 1000° or close to it.  There is no max temp setting on them, only a scale for reference.  An RCBS thermometer should read to 1000°.

Undecided

Joe, that one has me, too. If the thermometer has a max of 730F how did you know the pot was at 900F? Or were you saying the pot was set at 730F and the thermometer read 900F?? SM, by the way, my TelTru reads 100F higher than my RCBS.

I thought Joe said it would be RCBS on the last page.

FYI, I just looked at my Lyman.  It is 1000.

Might be able to tinker with it and get it working by bending the bimetal strips in the tstat if you can get at them.

With that little bit of lead on the nose between the mold blocks shown in post 36 I never would have expected  old lead to be the culprit  Embarrassed

Reminds me of a newly cut bullet mould. Customer used it and now claimed it was casting over size and out of round and sent it back. A spot of lead was soldered to the upper right corner of one of the block halves. He was indeed right so I cleaned it off casted a nice batch of bullets and it was now back to being the way it was originally sent and casting perfectly round and to size bases. That ended my desire to start making bullet moulds to sell so I just do my own and those for friends.
Barry Darr had cut that mould and sold it to that gentleman while teaching me how to get into the mould making business.
