Bullets for 43 Spanish

I have an original Peabody in 43 Spanish that I want to start shooting. A while ago there was a post  stating that the Peabody 43 Spanish had a larger bullet diameter than say the Remington. I didn't record that information and now I can't find that post.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and what bullet I need?  Huh

Not sure about a difference. But regardless of caliber or gun, I never order bullets or molds without slugging the bore on the intended rifle first. I've had far too many different bore sizes, and it could spell disaster for accuracy if I simply bought based on what it's supposed to be.

Slug the bore.  Too many variations in what is supposed to be if you could find out.

I’ve had several 43 Spanish rifles, Peabody and RB, and 11mm Mausers. The two molds I used were 439186 and 446110. IIRC the one I used most in the Peabody was the 446110. Slugging the bore should tell the tale.

Thanks everyone, for the information. Again, I can't find the original post,  but  after reading oneatatime's post. I believe that the Peabody was supposed to use .446 bullets instead of .439.

A friend of mine just got a 43 Spanish Peabody this week with an excellent bore. I slugged it for him. .435 bore .449 groove.

I use a .446 Mauser 43 bullet.

Here is a thread that help me get started with a Spanish 43 Peabody;

Another vote for the .446" Mauser bullet. Cast somewhat soft, maybe 20:1 or 30:1 lead to tin?
