Very nice and extremely interesting work and thanks for sharing it. What material did you choose to use for the extractors and did you treat them afterwards if you don't mind my asking.

Would be most interested in tools to cut the extractor slot in the receiver.
Use the Harry Eales method with a cutter made from an 1/8" lathe cutoff blade.
Blind cuts with a broach or a shaper type tool are always a major pain.
A better way would be appreciated.

Thank you Rodney having only made one from scratch for a FBW's Model J I did not feel that any treating was required and it has continued to work just fine. I also truly enjoy talking, reading and learning from the means, methods, materials and approaches being used by others.

Rodneys,  Thank you, Your tooling looks almost as good as your finished parts.
It will take a little while to figure out exactly how it works but the cutter looks somewhat familiar.
Think the extractor recess is the most difficult cut to make on a rifle action.
Thanks again,  Chuck

/l/he broach was surface ground down to the correct thickness. The broach would actually face the other way in use. I cut slots on both sides because the first one I converted was a percussion Sile Italian made one. and it had no extractor slots at all.

I know you are being facetious. But I have had several skilled people share with me and I enjoy sharing as long as it does not require a lot of writing. come to my shop and will show you what little I know anytime. That why I teach the rifle smithing class to share what I have learned. But strangely I always end up with more work from the students.

All of us appreciate those who share ideas and techniques.
Some of us are not as skilled as others, but even the most skilled can sometimes learn something.

Wow! Not many people make their own broaches. I'm impressed. What steel did you
use?

Rodney and Chuckster, it's not just the talented that can be fascinated by these things, but we of little skill can also learn and enjoy.
Thanks to all who share whatever they have to offer. It's a great site, ain't it?

Yes....Yes I was. Very kind of you to share. You mentioned maybe a YouTube video sometime in the future. At the very least maybe some pictures of you firing it. Would really like to see that. But yes I was kidding.
