Some have asked for more pictures of the Frank Freund conversion that I did. The Hammer is a casting and the other conversion parts are machined from bar stock.

Most interesting.  I hope we can look for a series of detailed articles in the Journal telling us all about it.  And about how well the conversion works.

Unique to say the least..... Talk about positive extraction! Excellent machine work too.

It works really well. When you cam them in you want to be able to pry them out, so the double extractors. I have built 5 like this and 3 of the Freund Wyoming Saddle guns. Also makes it where you cannot get a cartridge ahead of the extractor. the notch in the block guides the cartridge right between the extractors, when it is at the bottom of the lever stroke held there by the lever spring. Regarding writing a article, my writing skills are taxed by writing these little letters. Perhaps a you tube video,  we will see.

My heart goes pitter patter anytime I see Rodneys work on these Freund Sharps. They are rare rnough and valuable enough the average joe is unlikely to ever have one available to study. I, for one, would be happy to pay for schematics of the conversion, a video, pamphlet etc. i would love to twist your arm to do this Rodney both to preserve/document the information and to give us wannnabe machinists projects to keep us busy in the shop and poor from buying endmills. I think there would be enough interest to sell the info in some form to make it worth your time. Best

A Freund version of the '74 could be a "new"
product for Kirk

The tricky part is cutting the extra extractor slot. I made a fixture to hold at the correct angle and a special broach to cut on the Bridge port slotter head. after about 10 receivers I broke the broach. I still have a couple of receivers left that are slotted so will make a hunting rifle out of one with his patented sights. I can still use them with my 67 year old eyes.

I agree on the extractor slot. I did a 74 kit last year that had no slot at all. Made a "ladder" broach and used the quill in the Bridgeport to cut it in. It was a task to say the least. Have always wanted a what we called "wood pecker" slotter head for my machine. Can you convert a standard 74?
