I'm curious. How does it compare to mine?

The lip surrounding the blank is almost gone, because I had to reduce the rim O.D. to .323 just to get it past the breechblock of the hybrid.  Lip measures about .020, whereas yours is much wider.

That's why I want to try it in other guns.  I think this may be a problem unique to the hybrid.  If it is, I will scallop the top of the breechblock to give me more clearance.  Then I can leave the rim O.D. bigger.  A not uncommon mod to Model 44s chambered for the bigger cartridges.

More later.

Yah, the breechblock interference is the problem. Took the barrel out of the frame, and it's obvious that the rim recess in the chamber could accept a rim O.D. of as much as .345".  He built it for factory RF ammo, which is only .323 O.D.  He modified the lever to work with his new-made extractor, and that may be the trouble.  It may not be drawing the breechblock down far enough.

Sorry you are having these challenges. Hopefully you can come up with a way to make it work.

All in a day's work.  If I take his handmade extractor out, the breechblock drops down far enough, so it's something there that's the problem. Unfortunately in dismantling it I found that his home-made link is sloppy loose, so I'm going to have to correct that before I go any further.  That may have to wait until I can stand in front of the milling machine again.

So for further experimentation with the acorn blanks one of the other Favorites will have to be the test-bed, and this lovely little hybrid will go into the safe.

I am pretty late to this party but here is a 25 Stevens I made up for a friend from a 17 WSM case. Necking it up was the hardest part and required several very long tapered expanders. Annealing prevents the use of an unfired case of course and I re-primed with my own mix. The bullet is 65 grains for an old Ideal mold. We haven't tested it yet. Thanks, Ratseye

John Taylor just took this model 47 in 25 rimfire and made it a 25-20 single shot.
My friend had him do one in 25-20 wcf and it shoots the 257420 very well.
It's not a bad way to go.im out later today to see how it does.

A .25 rimfire barrel has a slower twist than the .25-20s had.  Nothing wrong with rechambering one, (I've done it), but it will not be happy with bullets heavier than about 65-70 grains.

I worked out a way to anneal live cases, by standing them in ice water and heating quickly and carefully so that no hot gas enters the case.   Another experimenter added the dodge of filling the case with Cream of Wheat to keep the hot gas away from the priming compound.  But even without that, I only set off about one or two in a hundred.   Still, the conversion is a lot of work, so I'm not planning to do any more.

I thought about the water pan idea but getting a bit of flame in the case mouth would be a problem as you mention. It is just as easy for me to re-prime them as to go through the motions. Plus, these are range pickups. I don't know where my picture of the cartridge went. Thanks, Ratseye

Just an FYI.

Most of the .25 Stevens centerfire cases I've made are from Winchester .22 Hornet and a few Hornady. The case mouths run around .005"  - they work great. But I had a few made from PPU .22 Hornet. The case mouth of these is about .010",.011". When seating the bullet in my shop made seater die, these thick mouth case can get jammed in the seater die and are difficult to chamber. I only had a few PPUs and have culled them out. It is something to keep in mind if you are making your own cases from .22 Hornet.

Yup,It works just fine and the bores are .257 not the .251 as you often hear stated.its just a way to use the existing barrel.I am shooting 60g bullets as it's just a 25-50yd plinker for me
But my barrel is a 1-14 twist which is the same as many 2520 single shots. I  Believe many other ones are the same twist. my friend Joe's rifle has the same twist at least that he had John Taylor convert.

EDIT-  I just slugged the bore again and measured more carefully its closer to .255.

Good to know.  I bought some PPU Hornet cases a couple of months ago.  Haven't even opened the bags yet.  Maybe put those into the K-Hornet support stash and use the rest of the Winchester cases from there for the .25 Stevens project.

Another thought: Do rounds made with the PPU brass fit into your guns' chambers?  As long as that .010 wall thickness is uniform, would it not center up the bullet in the throat better?

n.b. I've noticed that PPU brass for .223 Remington is also significantly heavier than American brass.

The PPU cases make a nice stop ring type case.

Inside ream to fit bullet diameter to your seated depth.

Seems like it takes a bit more effort to convert them.

They also work quite well for them K Hornet. Probably the most firings per case that I have used.

With a .258" diameter bullet seated in the PPU case, it won't chamber unless I neck size the loaded round. But that makes the bullet undersize then. Neck reaming would solve the problem. But I only had 3 PPU cases, so I just set them aside for now.
