Thanks ndnchf for posting your load data and test results. Looks like I need to find some reloader 7 to try.

I believe that Remington used a slightly faster twist rate than Stevens for .25 rimfire at 1 in 16, compared to 1 in 17 that Stevens used. That might help stabilize heavier bullets.

I measured the twist at 1-16. It seems to like this 72.5gr bullet.

I've seen mention of 4198 being very similar to RL7, but have not tried it as an alternative. But good to know - thanks.

Never woulda thunk that RL7 would do so well in such a tiny case.  I've always thought it needed more pressure.  Got plenty - I used to use it in the .35 Remington.

4198 is a bit faster than RL7.  Quickload says load about 0.7 grain less in this small case.

RL7 does leave some unburned powder in the bore, much like 2400 does. But I see no detrimental effects from it. I've used it in a number of vintage small cartridges. I always start at about 70% capacity and work up. Usually a full capacity load works best. This is a 100yard target shot earlier this year with my #2 RRB in .32 Ballard extra long (.32 rimfire extra long converted to centerfire). 9 5gr RL7 and a 93gr heel bullet. When I do my part, it does very well.

In the days of yore, if I remember correctly, RL7 was the powder of choice when the .222 Remington ruled the benchrest game.  There were fewer powders to choose from than we have today, of course.

BTW the Bull Shop order for the NOE 63 grain PB has arrived. Other things are getting priority around here, so haven't even opened the box, however.

Well, I succumbed to "buyers' hysteria" a few days ago and paid quite a bit of money for this little gem, (I hope), on Gunbroker.

Some long-ago gunsmith fitted a .25-10 #4 Rolling Block barrel to a "94" Favorite action.  Why? I can't begin to imagine.

I'm thinking that the RB extractor will be a lot more compatible with nailgun charges.  And the Stevens swinging-block action is very good at breech seating using a plugged case.

When I bought the Stevens 83 (also .25 RF) about a year ago I swore  to myself that I'd never buy anything more.

Never say never.

Well in a couple of years you won’t remember that you paid too much. Grin
I am curious as to how the #4 extractor was modified to work in a favorite.

That was one of the attractions for me, also.  I should have it in a week or so, and like everything but Colt and S&W revolvers, it'll be apart as soon as I get it unwrapped.

There might even be photos.  I finally got my flip-phone to talk to my computer again.  Bad cable.

I ran into a fellow at a gunshow selling cast bullets a while back. I didnt buy anything, but did get his card. So i emailed him a couple weeks ago asking about .25 Stevens bullets. He found these he had cast years ago from a H&G #32 mold. He sent me about 150. They are  259" diameter, about 55.5gr. A little light, but a nice looking bullet. Something else to try  Smiley

I received my order from The Bullshop for the 63gr NOE bullets. So I loaded up a few with 1.9gr of W231, CCI SP primers and tried them today. They shot very well!  Average velocity was 1036fps. This is a really sweet load Smiley

Looks like the center fire case?

Is that a small pistol primer in the data?

Looks like great progress
