Following USCRA112's excellent diagram, I made the .25 Stevens seater parts for a Lee Universal Expander Die (UED) body. It works perfectly!  Thanks for taking the time to design, draw and share it.

These Lee UEDs are really just flaring dies. I must have at least 15 of them, but only one or two are used for flaring. For all the others, I've made custom expander plugs or neck size bushings. This is the first bullet seater I've made out of one. They are inexpensive and perhaps Lee's best kept secret.

We need somebody with access to a CNC lathe to whip up a batch of these.  The only commercial die that even comes close is the .25-20 WCF, and it is a pain to use.

That would be nice, but its not me. My lathe is 75 years old and I'm no machinist, just a tinkerer. It takes me 4 times as long to make something than a real machinst with a modern machine shop.

I would buy one.

Just wondering where the seater diagram is?  Would like to have a look at it.

Just shoot a p/m with you regular email addy and I'll send it along.  (As a .pdf file, so you won't need AutoCAD.)

HA! I guess that's good enough.

I start with 9/16 round which fits the Lee die body.

Lower part has a slight shoulder to keep it from falling right through.   Hard to see until you look closely.

I used a center drill to form the business end of the top punch.

The rest is obvious.

Phil

n.b. Speedy Metals has 9/16 12L14 round.  It machines well.  Was cheap the last time I bought any.  Shipping was more than the steel.

Me too.  I'm 76 years old, and I think my lathe is older than I am.  War finish South Bend 10 inch Heavy.  Nice lathe but slow.

Mine's a 12" x 24" Atlas made in 1946. I've had it about 35 years and made hundreds of parts on it. It's like an old friend.

Ah, thank you for that, and I’d just found the reference in the other thread as well. All good. I’m in oz so I’d need to chase some local suppliers for suitable steels.

Santa came in September! That is in the form of Dellet, who very generously sent my a variety of bullets to try in my .25 Stevens. Here is what I received. The Arsenal 257420 bullet on the far right is a shortend version of the bullet to its left. I simply turned off the gas check heel in the lathe.

I'm going to start with some moderate smokeless loads to establish a baseline. More to follow   Wink

No range report yet?

What does that shortened 257420 Weigh?

Not yet. I hope to get to the range this week. The shortened bullet weighs about 59gr.

I finished the 2nd batch of .25 Stevens centerfire brass. This gives me 40 pieces, plus 25 reloadable rimfire cases. I should be set now  Smiley
