	I have donem most of my hunt.ing with a single shot. Even when I have used a firearm with a magizine, I very rarely ever fired more than one shot at one animal. I have never felt limited by using a singleshot. Do any of you feel limited when using a singleshot? Lrr

	Never felt the need for more as long as I plenty of extra rounds in the pocket, can't say the same for muzzleloading.

	In about a half century of hunting, often with single shots, only once have I needed a 2nd shot with CF or muzzle loaders. It was a turkey at maybe 80 meters. Mantled bullet I had downloaded was going too slow to expand and just missed spine, turkey dropped and then got up and started walking away. 2nd shot hit spine directly. Once out of 100+ shots.

	I use a elastic buttstock cuff that slips on my single shot rifles and holds extra ammo. I have always grabbed a 2nd round after firing, and loaded the chamber. So far never had to use it, but I like having them handy.

	I have never use more than one round except on a 350# black bear. Shot through both lungs and his heart, he was dead. It just took a while for him to figure it out

However, when I'm hunting locally for moose with a single shot and I come upon a big pile of brown bear sign and the large tracks that go along with it I do seem to spend more time looking over my shoulder. I console myself by realizing that the few bears I've run into have all run away. JS

	Yep, SS only since '69. I have others from pretty good to H&R, but my go-to, is a Martini with a 26" Ackley tube in 30/40AI. Shoots dime size groups with 49gr H4831 pushing a Hornady 180 RN. I have one up the pipe and one in my shirt pocket, have never needed the extra. Recently graduated the old girl to 165grGC cast, seems more fitten' ya know. Promising loads are 17gr of 2400 or 44gr of 4831, both put 'em dang near in the same hole from the bench at 100. Leadman

	Most bear I've seen have been headed for the next county. However, I was recently shown a picture of a bow hunter (nephew of an acquaintance of mine). The picture show the nephew with his bow and an elk he had just bagged. Piled up on top of the elk was a grizzly. How the kid happened to be hunting with someone with a rifle I don't know. This was just outside the park boundaries for Mt. Ranier Nat'l Park. AFIK that area isn't supposed to have any grizzly. But then as we all know bear don't read.

	My guess is that you had better make a good case that it was you or the bear. OTOH, maybe they didn't say anything and just hoped they don't get caught; in which case taking pictures is not the wisest thing to do. The other case I heard about was a grandpa that walked his granddaughter to the but and spotted a cougar in the tree above the bus stop. Walked back into the house grabbed rifle and shot the cougar. Because of the shot a county mountie showed up. Took one look and said why don't the two of us go bury that cougar someplace. .... Given good cause you can shoot a cougar w/o a tag. You just don't get to keep it. Met a gal up hunting...pretty shook up ... she had just passed up a bear she thought was too big to shoot; and she was packing a -06??? Interestingly enough, she referred to cougar as "the other white meat".

	The packer that took me goat hunting by Rainier 20 years ago said he saw griz sign that far south even though there were no griz in WA. Was that gal hunting in WA?

	Yes, that gal was hunting in WA. Specifically east of Curlew (Taylor Ridge). She was the escort for her aging grandfather. A whole group would come over from N of Everett and stay for two weeks.

	For me, even if the critter I’m hunting goes down at the shot, I will usually reposition and pay the insurance shot, just to make sure. I’ve never had an insured animal run away, but I’ve heard of people walking up on a dead critter, and it jumps up and gone.
