BS Marlinguy!! Those of us that have to do it usually have a simple choice: don't shoot or figure out how to use two poor eyes together. I started doing it from very start, as pre teen, shotguns, revolvers, rifles, rifles mostly scoped. I did it with low-power scopes (2-4X). I did it shooting BPCR with MVA 6x scope, both with scope mounted over barrel and on Steve Earlie's offset mounts.

None of what you just posted supports the ability to keep one eye on a spirit level in the rear sight position, while looking at the front sight with the other eye. You call BS, and yet it's obvious you do not shoot long range, or can't remember how to do so!!!
I never said anything about not being able to shoot with both eyes open, yet you call BS and explain how it can be done. Of course some shooters shoot with both eyes open, and I never denied that. But to say you can somehow have one eye looking down at the bubble 10" away, while the other is looking at the sight on the end of the barrel, and the target AND still shoot accurately, is the biggest crock of BS I've ever heard!
Even if you had two god eyes, it would not allow them to look in different directions, and do an accurate job of shooting. Beyond being barely competent to drive, it seems you're barely competent to read, or comprehend what's been written too!

HO! HO! HO! Over flowing BS. One does not need especially good eyesight or reading comprehension to quickly recognize your Grade A, Pure BS, and inability to tolerate that some folks successfully do what is needed. It must be such a good feeling to claim you are always right.  Cheesy

You surely would know! Since you feel you're always right! Would love to see how well you shoot at 800-1000 yds. with a rear mounted spirit level! That should be fun to watch.
But I'm sure you'd have more BS excuses why you wont/can't.

Goodness, me, oh my! I haven't even got used to the notion that I ought to have four trigger fingers, and now you say some folks have eight? I'm so depressed...........

Not everyone who uses a spirit level is shooting to 1k. Of course a level inside the front sight does better for the kind of shooting that makes that sort of gear a MUST, but that doesn't mean anyone who puts a level on a rifle is doing that.

Plenty of folks who shoot modern rifles with scopes use an offset level that they peek at with their non-dominant eye. Works great.

Any level is often better than no level.

A level looks nicer than the ugly filler blanks the OP was trying to avoid.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but certainly not always.

Of course anyone can use a spirit level, or not. It may indeed make a great dovetail filler, although a pretty spendy filler. A spirit level is much more important the farther away a person shoots. Everyone may not shoot to 800 or 1000 yds., but if they do, a slight tilt to the gun makes much more difference than it does at say 300-400 yds. At closer distances a spirit level is much less effective, and not as necessary.
One can indeed look at a spirit level that is inline, offset, or located almost anywhere. But I'd bet money that you wont find a long range shooter who is shooting and finishing in the top 10 at any major long range event using a spirit level in the rear dovetail. It's strictly a dovetail filler in that location.

So sorry! That was not intended response! If it will help you feel better, try counting to 10 on your fingers and thumbs. Hopefully you can count to 8 using only your fingers  -- and a big smile will appear on your face. Smiley

Be careful you don't choke on your own BS!

Yep! Did that for years, definitely for sighting in, and sometimes hunting smaller game where precise shot placement to prevent ruining a bunch of meat, time permitting. A level has sometimes been very reassuring when shooting from contorted, non-standard hunting positions.

I'm not worried, since I do shoot long range. But I'm concerned about your own connection with reality. Tell me how many long range matches you shoot a year big shot?

And not a one of them is reliable any longer, unless rifle is in rock solid rest. Quit shooting 200M and BPCR two years ago when my scores dropped to half of my 1st year scores in both. No fun wasting ammo. Even terminated last seasons hunting and cancelled all of this years hunts. Cry
