BSA Martini MK III - R&R Barrel

Good morning,

Has anyone removed and reinstalled the barrel and fore end hanger on a Martini MK III International.  I want to remove the barrel to freshen the crown but would like to know about such things as proper cross-bolt torque, setting headspace, any other useful information.

Thanks

Mark Chesebro (sp) works on Martini's.  He has discussed rebarreling a Mark III with me.

If you have access to a lathe with a centering spyder on the rear of the spindle  just remove the forend and front sight  center the bbl on both ends and recut the crown,  if you don't  have a spyder chuck the action in a four jaw chuck center the bbl with the 4 jaw, front in the steady rest and recut the  crown.
HTH ,  LD1
PS if you are worryed about marring the finish where the steadyrest runs, wrap two turns of good electrical tape around the bbl cut the end so it matches the first end just like a paper patch bullet the bbl will run true.
Could also put some tape on the jaws of the chuck.

Long distance1, thanks for the tip about the tape. I never thought about doing that.
