Stevens walnut hill butt prong

I just received a nice WAlnut Hill in 22 LR. Unfortunately the USPS managed to break the lower prong on the butt plate. It looks like cast aluminum but ???

I'm looking for help in repairing this.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

First thing is to confirm what the metal is. I've never seen a Walnut Hill with an aluminum buttplate in schuetzen style? But if it is aluminum, then a good welder can fix it easily with a tig weld. Then it can be smoothed off, and polished up.
