If a person was wanting to try 300mp after having an established an accurate
loading breechseating using 4227 at say 15 grains.  What weight of charge
would one try using 300mp?  Always used the original imr4227 and am running
out.  This is for a 32-40

I would try using 14.0 to 14.2 of the 300MP for 200yds. and 13.7 to 13.9 at a 100yds. It tends to favor primers just a tad with Fed. 210's, CCI 200's and Winchester Large Rifle Magnum's typicaly being the all around best.

For what it is worth my go to loads with 208 gr tapered bullets are a bit milder.  I was using 14 gr of 4227 and have switched to 12.4 gr of 300MP.  I use Remington 9-1/2 primers. the 300 MP load is very accurate in both my 1 in 11.5 gain twist RKS barreled Ballard  and 14 twist Green Mountain High Wall.

I've charged my Wurfflein & Uberti 1885 with 17.3gr of 300-MP using the Ideal 37584 & 375272  respectively. The groups have been nice but still striving to match J Louis's targets.  Wink

BP Jack being around a couple of grains less and having good success is a real advantage. The less movement a rifle has in the bags or with using a sled the better off one really is. The wind and mirage will always be there and there is no way to beat so its best for one to just learn how to shoot it and to shoot it very well. That is what truly seperates the men from the boys not bullet speed and or weight and I see you are getting a pretty good handle on doing just that by your ongoing results.

John,

Having a known accurate load makes a big difference.  Your posts on 300MP paid off for me.  This spring I did my best to pay attention to the conditions and trust in my rifle.  After a disappointing 19th place in the first day of the RKS bench scope match in Spokane, I spent the rest of that day and the next morning first relay watching the wind flags and what it was doing to others.  That diligence netted me a third in the day two relay and a first on the following Saturday.  All the more satisfying with a traditional rifle.!!!

Could not agree more the only really important part the bullet plays is in being the most consistently accurate no matter what the shape or weight and then the rest is left up to the powder, primer and the individual to never let down. One of the best competitiors in CBA and still a record holder would spend a half an hour just sitting at his bench watching the wind flags before a match started. He knew when it started which one was going to be the prevailing condition and would then sighted in for it.
