Don't know what this model is exactly.  Some have said it's the rare "Stevens Trapper Model," of which only 16-2/3 were made at the factory.  Others have told me it's the even more legendary "Tanker Model," of which a maximum of 9-3/4 were made, but ordered destroyed by the League of Nations in 1921.

Mine is stamped "musketoon" on the barrel, and has a bayonet stud.

I'd think so too, if I didn't have a copy of Stevens' incredibly rare GERMAN catalog, which identifies this as their Mannlicher model.

All the enjoyable funning aside, I think it's a rather handsome and well-crafted "backpack" rifle.  Also, I vaguely remember - and I'm sure someone here will correct this as needed - that vintage experiments "proved" that the minimum barrel length that still gave good accuracy was 16" or thereabouts.

One last thought.  As a young lad, I would've sure liked this shorty Stevens as a first rifle far more than the bolt action Stevens I did get.
