	A number 6 Ballard with HUBERT ARNOLD MILLS NY 1889 in pencil found in the forend channel. Previous owner I would guess? Ancestry has nothing on him and the Rifle magazines of the era as well. Any New Yorker ever heard of him?

	Did you check both Hubert Arnold in Mills, NY and Hubert Arnold Mills? I found a Hubert Arnold in Gloversville, NY in the early 1880s. He was a glove cutter in a glove factory. Probably could not afford a Ballard , but that is where Ned Roberts lived. There was another Hubert Arnold, a civil engineer in Schenectady in 1909. I found nothing when I checked Hubert Arnold Mills.

	Waterman thank you. I tried various combinations and also checked early issues of the RIFLE reprints as well. Even thought about Arnold Hubert. Wonder what a glove cutter earned piece work a penny or two a pair?

	I love these kind of gun mysteries! They can be fun to attempt to find an owner from over 125 years ago!

	Did you search Ancestry as a member? My wife found lots of them but there is no info on them. 2 likely suspects born in NY in 1843 and about 1850. There is no Mills, NY on Ancestry. The 1900 NY census has several more but you need more info to find him. She has extensive search experience. About 50,000 relatives in her data base. Unfortunately, it will take more than a name and town that doesn't show to find him.

	That would be my guess too, with 1843 not out of the question. More questions than answers.

	I found a Hubert Mills in the 1877 NYC directory. He was a carpenter. Lived at 48 Perry Street. Nothing else even close. This time I used 1840 as date of birth.
