I should also mention that you don't need, or want, a lube sizer.  Look up pan lubing. It's cheap and does not distort the bullet in any way.  You just need the proper lube.

If we could just get everyone to agree that 6" groups at 200yd or 100yd for .22LR are all that is needed then it would be a whole lot cheaper for everyone. Wink

But, someone would want to beat everyone with a 5" group and the arms (make that the $$) race would begin. Unfortunately, for our bank accounts, shooting is a 'run what ya brung' sport and one thing most of the top shooters bring is a fair amount of funds (usually expended over a fair amount of time).

Gunlaker, you are so right (this I am learning) that reloading the 32-40 is pretty cheap!  That 4227 powder and tiny charge per cartridge doesn't get any better.  My .45-70 and .308 EAT powder in comparison. But man-o-man the ability to be stoooopid and double charge has me paying attention!  Until I cast the quality bullets that Fitz-G schooled me to stay with, buying cast bullets will be the expense.

And yes SSShooter, if it shot one hole groups at 100 yards...then what would I do?   Smiley That would be boring! But...I pursue the day I will be hitting that 1" trailer hitch ball at 200 yards every shot like some can...

This website and the experience of folks on it just might get me there...something I wouldn't have enough time to figure out on my own.

Cool stuff...from metallurgy, chemistry to Physics...and I will not pretend to understand most of it.

I'm going to have to get the book...too many have advised it not to be true.  Allowance money after next month (neck die, powder, and cast bullets got this and next month's...).  Cry

Timber,

If you really want accuracy and plan on match shooting, I would put all my efforts into breach seating.  The 200 gr Saeco bullet is a good start.  Making a plugged case push seater is really simple.  A piece of 1/4" rod with a wood handle threaded 1/4-20 into a primer pocket with a nrass or hardwood plug and you are ready to go.  You will be surprised at the difference in accuracy over fixed ammo.

Dang...I didn't mean to post it twice!

BPjack I do believe you.  I think breech seating has to be the cat's meow.  My neighbor is a machinist, he just got a Sharps...so...time to twist his arm!

I'll not compete...i work 70 hours a week with commute.  But retirement (16 more years if lucky), then heck yeah!  In the interim, just playing and learning.  Lucky to have some mountain land that I squeezed out 200 yards, slightly uphill, snaking through the trees, but 200 yards.

But one day in the interim I'm going to find a shoot or someone in southeast and get some schooling on the techniques, field powder measures/throwers y'all use, depriming and priming tools etc.

If your neighbor is a machinist you are in business.  Here is a simple (non-machinist quality  Smiley) adjustable push seater.  start with a fires case, drill out the primer pocket to 1/4". Turn down a piece of brass rod to be a slip fit, maybe 1.5 inches long.  Drill and tap one end 1/4-10 or 1/14 -28.  Insert a threaded rod, add some nuts to adjust depth and a handle.  This handle is a bit sharp for anything requiring a good push.  It started out as a serving fork. It is offset to allow use with a tang sight. The bullet should fit into the case so you can guide it in.  Push until the case is fully seated.

Jack yours is much nicer than my adjustable seater Smiley

Timber, shooting the .32-40 with smokeless can be pretty cheap.  Certainly a lot less so than the .45-90 I was shooting today.  But then most of the cost of shooting for me is probably gas money Smiley
