I went back to some of the Reference sources used when working up my .25 Kraig loads. Phone book sized Wildcat Cartridges, reprints of Wolfe publishing magazine articles has a good one on 25 Kraig comparing it to other large capacity 25's.  Examples all used the 117g Sierra and H 4831. 25/06 achieved 3139 fps muzzle. He got a bit less out of the Kraig.

Hot one was the 25 Weatherby that clocked 3407 with 4831 and the 115 gr Nosler.

Another good source is Bob Hagels Game Loads, he got 3294 in a 25/06 with the 115 G Nosler and 4832. Bit less with same bullet and 4350. Hagel mentions his loads are very hot and only suitable for strong bolt actions.

I never got over 3000 fps with the 117 gr in my CPA with the limit sticky opening. Single shots, much as I like them, don't lock as tight as a bolt action and extraction is much weaker. It shoots all around better slower . To my mind Accucary one thing Velocity another both, Rare.

Boats.

As  far as primers, federal cup is thinner. I have a 30 br that will crater primers but won't  the Remington. Had to change to a Wolf spring to fire Remington primers. Cheesy

MAC,

Accuracy suffers when you fly bullets to fast for their relative lenght to barrel twist rate.  Not to say this is the issue, just observing frustration from others and my expereinces.

The bullet you reference, Nosler .257 110 gr, is around 1.195" long.  Calculators indicate that the minimum velocity to stabilize is only 2,650 fps in a 1 in 10" barrel.

I suggest referencing some load manuals for powders that provide this velocity and fill the case to over 70%.  Then, work up slowly attempting to find the low end velocity node for best accuracy.  Lower pressure loads greatly extend the life of all parts, including the rifle!

Speed is only that, speed.  Accuracy is where you find it.  Here are a few helpful links to help chart you adventure.

Good luck

My older Nosler manual lists 4350 as the most accurate powder at about a 100 fps
off the RL22 load. Maybe a bit more difficult for thrown charges but if you want tight
charge weight then throw light and dribble to weight.

WT are not that hard to kill. 257 Roberts loads and velocities have been doing it for years as have 30-30's. Placement is still more important that velocity. My only elk went down with a 85 gr nosler but at 125 yds which I consider the max distance for such a light cartridge.

Muley's at long range or elk are a different proposition.
YMMV

If your budget can swing it Norma or Lapua brass are very nice. After all, how many rounds do you fire a year to sight in and drop your deer?  I know people that don't even sight in every year. (not me).

Good luck and be careful.

I have shot a factory B-78 with octagon barrel for probably 20 years now.  I tried Re-22 with the 110 grain Accubond and got poor groups.  I switched to 50.0 gr8 of H4350 and shrank groups significantly to under 1 moa.  I then tried Re-25 and have used it ever since.  My load of 58.5 gr is what my rifle likes but it is a stout load to say the least.  I started well below that and stopped when the vertical groups changed to round.  Re 22 has always been my powder of choice for 100 grain bullets.  Tom
