Numerous Single Shots at Upcoming Auction

I received notification today that there are a number of high quality single shot rifles coming out at auction at Reata Pass Auctions in Dewey, AZ on October 22nd and 23rd. I see Winchester 1885 Hi Walls and Low Walls, Stevens 44 1/2's, Remington Rolling Blocks, Martini's, a Marlin Ballard, Sharps Borchardt, and others. A lot of good looking stuff. From what I gather, these were from the estate of John Hughes of Black Canyon City, AZ, a locally renowned shooter and single shot enthusiast.
Website is reatapassauctions.com. Online bidding available, too. FYI...

Boy that was just like going to an East Tennessee gunshow. A lot of crap to wade through to find a couple of guns that looked interesting until you got close. Most of the single shots have been re-chambered or rebarreled in modern and sometimes dangerous calibers. Only good for the actions if they haven’t already been stretched out by their new chamberings. To be fair there was a nice roller in 40-65 and a 45-70 high wall but most of the rest had fatal flaws.

That is an awesome pic. Only thing that would make it better is if a wind flag was still tied to the stake/bullet seater and if the smokes were sitting on top of a can of powder.

I never will live that down, huh? Had to borrow some bullets from Dave Luth & couldn't seat them with my seater, that's why I didn't finish the off hand. It was also about the fifth match I ever shot & I still made it to 30th place over all. I was kind of cutr 32 yrs. ago!......                             ...MIKE...
