50/95 information

Does anyone have any experience with the 50/95  WCF round.

I have had good results with my 50/70's, but I have a hi-wall in 50/95  I haven't  shot.

Is it worth the hassle of new brass, new dies, or just keep going with the 50/70's

Thanks

Wow. Can't imagine shooting a 50/95 (or 50/70 for that matter - the 44/100 I shot last year was way too much for my shoulder Wink). I'm excited about getting my 38-50 & 32-40 shooting so I can retire the hard recoiling 40-65 (save it for the occasional 1000yd match).

You might also ask on the Shiloh Sharps and the Cast Boolits forums. They have any number of 50cal shooters on both. Think someone actually was in the top-10 at the Montana State BPCR championship shooting a 50/70. 696gr bullet, IIRC. Talk about a tough shoulder.

Good luck with your 50/95.

If you stay with bullet weights that were intened for this cartridge, 350gr. Or less, and keep to lighter loads, the recoilis very manageable. Generly speaking the twist rate in the 50-95 is very slow and will not stabilize heavy bullets.

Thanks for that. It is as expected. I have a 1885 in 45-125, 45 Express, it too calls for a lighter bullet.

I may have to go ahead with it, I hate having guns I can't shoot, even if it's very infrequently, I like to have the option.

Now if I can find a Colt Lightning to go with it.

My first Sharps was a 50-90. Components can be scarce & pricey so I imagine the 50-95 might be likewise. I've noticed several people using the 50-70 here in Texas for hunting & they are lacking nothing. If I wanted a 50 cal for hunting I'd get a 50-70.

Well I got a mold and cases. So hopefully if get left alone this week end, I'll see if I can get some loaded up. I'll start with BP, as I seem to be having trouble finding smokeless loads. Hopefully all will go well.
