C.C. Johnson .22lr Ballard Target Rifle (Read 4123 times)

	I recently purchases a C.C. Johnson Ballard Off-Hand Target Rifle chambered for .22 LR. The Markings under the barrel is 53048 w/ DLR under it. 28" x about 7/8" w/provision for peep and globe front. Has a 12x Unertl scope on old blocks. I understand that Jerry is his grandson and can find some of these in C.C.'s old records. Can anyone give me his address or e-mail? mine is gunsmith@ncats.net Thanks for any help you can give. wonderpilot

	The Johnsons are not related. Eric Johnson (Conn) made his barrels, CC Johnson (Ohio)-marked barrels were made by Mr Diller.

	The #53048 indicates it was project number 48 in 1953. I think that is the same year he barreled the Borchardt that I bought a few years back. Tom

	a few years back we had an excellent profile article on CC in the ASSRA Journal (copies should be available from the Archivist). He did some rebarreling and also a lot of relining. If I remember correctly he used Diller barrel/liners as long as they were available and in later years used BSA made liners. Liners in those days were more like turned-down barrels than the thin wall rifled tubing available now.
