Gentlemen,

I thank you all for your kind words. It sure was an exciting target, and one heck of a way to finish the match.

Jerry,

How long is the tube sight?  I really must finish mine.

Dave,

The tube sight I built and am now using on my 25-20 WCF is 35.5" long, including the rear aperture. The one I made for Rich Davis is 28" long. I also made a 31" long one for my 28-35 SS.

I don't think the exact length is really all that important. Getting the right size front aperture and adjusting the rear one for your eyesight is the important part.

I have made seven to date all 30 inches in length with the exception of one or two for those who wanted it to be 28 inches in overall length. As Jerry mentioned I don't think the length is all that critical but I would not go shorter than 28 inches. I strongly believe the most critical part is getting the interior completely free of any stray light / completely black by using the correct hole sizes and spacing for each individual baffle. I typically install five each the first having a hole diameter of .100 thousands and gradually increasing each one from there on forward. From the back aperture to the front you do not want to see anything at all between those two points. It is also very critical that the tube runs somewhat true from back to front so there are no adverse effects to the windage and elevation adjustments and that the tube can then remain centered in the back adjusting mount. It is also somewhat critical that the Pope Rib stay centered with the tube from the front to back especially so if one forgets to pull the tube back to battery after taking a shot.
It is also critical that your tube has enough mass under recoil to remain still and to not move back with the rifle and bing you in the head for each shot taken. Mine generally weigh very close to the same as the typical 1 1/2 Unertl, Lyman Super TargetSpot etc. and that you also use seamless tubing.

Ken our group is indeed highly competitive but a more user friendly group would be hard for one to find. All will totally go out of their way to be as helpful to others as they possibly can. When the timer starts we all get pretty serious and when it stops its the complete opposite and time to let the joking and or the more serious conversations to begin. If one has a problem with their rifle more than likely someone is on hand that can fix it if not serious so one can continue on with all the fun. We all have a small stash of parts in our shooting kits and even more so for the CPA's and seperated cases that might occur in any rifle. Worse case is they could always shoot mine to make the out of state drive well worth their time and effort.

Derrickman it would be well deserved, Jerry is a very close friend and I know how hard he has worked to achieve his success! But with our budget he might have to settle on a plastic statue made in China in the neighbor hood of oh about 3 inches tall give or take to place in our trophy case and sorry my friend that is probably already stretching our dollars. All joking aside he shoots just as well at his home club but it seems he also likes to break some of the records at ours and a true honor as he is as much a part of our group as he is of his own. That also holds true for Mr. Pork & Beans the two of them very seldom miss one of our matches and they are both always more than willing to help out.

A bobble head might be a popular alternate to the bronze statue. Sales might even turn a small profit to support the range  Grin
