Guys,I want to Thank everyone who gave me help yesterday. Everything worked out for me today. I went with a different pot with 16:1 alloy, temp at a little over 800, put the corner in the alloy  except when getting the bullet out,and remembered that I used some 3/7 alloy this week casting money bullets so I went to a friends and blasted my ladle clean. Not sure what it was, 1 thing or all, but this morning I had 5 bullets that had wrinkles and the next 50 were fine. Again Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Bill

Schuetzenmiester,

No, never above 835/840. I try to stay between 825 and 830. I'm on the end of the line out here and some days it's a struggle to stay in my temp range as the voltage fluctuates by the minute. Summertime is worse than winter.

That is what I finally settled on for most molds after many years to experimenting; 800 to about 825.

HiWall, My bet is sandblasting the ladle is the key. Probably a little zinc contamination from somewhere.  I learn all about zinc in 93 when I was trying to cast bullet to go to the DCRA anniversary LR BP match at Ottawa.  Undecided

I believe the wheel weights are now Zinc. If one or more happened to be in a bucket along with the lead ones it might create such a problem I would think?

Bob the 93 experiance doesn't sound like a very pleasant one?

No John, total panic  Grin  I found at the time the sticky back wheel weights were culprit.  They were just starting to show in the scrap and it only took one or 2 to contaminate a 20 pound pot. The contamination stayed in the pot and on dipper.  I don't remember what I had to do to the mold if anything.  That was before the immermet, not easy to find anyone with  knowledge to help troubleshoot.  I don't remember how I figured it out, but I never forgot  Grin

Take the mold apart and clean it with a toothbrush and some Dawn dish washing soap. Blow it out right away and dry. Coat the inside chambers and faces with mold prep. Try casting now heating on the pot and then cast ten bullets as fast as you can. Now you should get good bullets.
A lot of people are going to tell you I'm full of crap about the Mold Prep but it works. Remember when you are using it your not painting a barn just a light coat will do.

Bob gives one a frightful feeling to just think about it. I try to keep enough bullets cast and lubed for practice and a match on the shelf at all times. I once had a similar incident but I had plenty of time to resolve it or I
probably have missed out on the match.

40 Rod jogged my memory.  I remember boiling the mold in water to get rid of the contamination.  I probably tried mold prep in the process.  I used it in my NEI aluminum  molds.

You can get mold prep from Buffalo Arms.
Washing with dawn usually gets out contaminates out silicon can be especially hard to get out.

I actually put buffalo arms mould prep on before and it did not help. I think it was cleaning the ladle and not keeping the mould HOT !
I'll get them wrapped up today , Bill
