.38/55 Load Data Needed

Does anyone have a smokeless load suggestion for the .38/55 with 330-335 grain lead bullets?  I've had several tell me that RL-7 powder is a good choice, but can't seem to find a starting powder weight.  The ammo will be used in a custom barreled Ruger No. 1.  Thank you,  miss

Go on the Reloder website and ask their tech people. They will generally provide safe starting load info.

My Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook is a great resource for cast bullet loads.  It gives 24.0 gr of RL7 and 26.5 gr of 3031 as starting loads for the 335 grain Lyman 378674 Snover bullet. Pressures in the mid 16Ks.

If I lost my copy of the above book, I'd go out this afternoon to buy another.

A No. 1 in 38-55 sounds sweet, would love to have one!

I use 24gr of Black Horn 209 (yes, it's a smokeless powder) for up to 355 gr cast slugs and have excellent results. A 0.60 fiber wad under the bullet helps.

+1. Was thinking 32WCF, but the 35-40 Maynard or 38-55 or 38-50 sounds better.

I'm shooting 17 grains of H4198 under 330/335s and getting very good results. No wads or fillers, tight groups. 15 twist barrel.

I have two #3's in 38-55/375Win - one is a carbine the other is setup Scheutzen with palm rest and hooked butt plate.  YES, SWEET!

I mostly shoot black but my 38-55 CPA with a 13.25 twist likes a 335 Lyman and 21.5 grains of 4227
