That is certainly not insurmountable.  Maybe a few of us who are able could start a $50 or $100 club to support the ASSRA sort of like the NMLRA does with their 1 of 1000 club, but make it an annual contribution as one's financial status allows? It is certainly important to maintain the reserve fund reported in the Journal. I'm not sure that status  should be made public or not.  I guess that should be a decision left to the contributors, as a group or individually, or the board.

Hmmmm, it sounds like a campaign to get dual ISSA/ASSRA memberships might cure that.

What do you think?

I think commingling the 2 organizations is asking for more trouble than it is worth.  ASSRA is primarily east of ol' Miss and ISSA is west with individuals participating in one or both as they see fit.

Not combining, Bob. Just dual memberships. Oh and maybe a combined "National Match" with both groups attending, somewhere near the middle of the US Smiley

No, you join ISSA, like we do and then you also sent your $40 to ASSRA and get the magazine.

I am thinking that is information that should only be available to ASSRA members and not published here on a public website. Am I correct?

Frank, Not sure how to make it mandatory? ISSA membership doesn't offer much unless you attend the matches.

slumlord44, You meant the donors list?  Doesn't mater to me.  Some may want reorganization and other probably want to remain anonymous.

If they get their 501, it won't be secret anymore and I really think a person should be able to know that info, before joining, don't you?

Not mandatory. People could do it out of the goodness/kindness of their heart. ASSRA would just have to speak to their (ISSA) heart, in ways that it was understood.

Currently, ASSRA is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(7) through 2014 and files an annual Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax.  These are informational tax returns that are required to be filed not later than May15th annually.
This is the 2014 Form 990, dated 02-04-2015, with the applicable organization's financial detail information ending 3-31-2014...
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
Fiscal Year 2014
Total Revenue - 54,411
Total Expenses - 63,625
Total Cash & Savings - 140,694
Total Assets - 283,891
Total Journal Costs - 45,757

Per QuideStar.org, the 2015 Form 990 has not been posted but am sure the Treasurer has a pdf copy that can be posted on the the Forum or read on GuideStar.org when it is received

Of note, per the IRS all Form 990's are public documents and can be reviewed upon request by any person to the organizations, including all ASSRA's Form 990's

They are short $9,000 for '14 but, it looks like they can operate for another 15.5 years, that way. And double that if the property is sold. That's 45+ years.

EG could also generate income, with a small investment. Pick up a little with a volunteer editer.

Hard times mean hard measures, as they say.

Frank, Why would the guys who run it want to continue if there was no range or shooting program? It is all volunteer now. How would you attract new members without any shooting program? There needs to be a reserve fund to defend the organization in case of some kind of incident.

Bob,
The Editor is a paid employee. EG is only one of the ranges that ASSRA matches are held. I hold a monthly ASSRA match, though the guys won't let me score 22's ASSRA (I was out voted). Are any of your matches ASSRA?

ASSRA did not have it's own range before about 1985 and thrived at that time.

Yes, Tacoma's matches have always been ASSRA except when they added the ISSA Regional.

If the editor is a paid employee, I have no issue with it.  It is a heck of a job to put on anyone for free.

Selling off assets and letting the organization consume them doesn't sound like a very good way to proceed  Cry
