for reference only--not to provoke further discussion. better to let sleeping dogs stay dead rather turn them into zombie discussions.   Huh
but Keith's oblique reference in no way was applicable, or intended to be, to either of the last couple Journal editors.   mistakes have been made in the past and lessons and safeguards emplaced to prevent similar errors. Roll Eyes

Still waiting for someone to take me up on the free membership. Just trying to pay it forward.

Any deserving youngsters in your neck of the woods who could use a range introduction and membership?

as per request I am dupli-posting this here in case some have gotten tired of the other thread:

"OK,  I'll grab the bull by the horns and face the consequences later.

If you want to make a DONATION to help the ASSRA, simple make out your check/money order to ASSRA, mark it as "donation" in the memo line and mail it directly to our treasurer.
Roger Henderson,   1200 s Sunderland Rd, Spencerville OH 45887
It will be taken care of properly, however like most of us Roger is a volunteer, still a working stiff, and has a full time career and family--so it may take a few days for him to get them deposited.
If you want to tag yourself as "donor" or add your ASSRA membership number to you site ID you can do that by opening up your "user CP" page and adding it to your personal boilerplate.

Just look at the poor little tyke... she's completely traumatized.
Who gave her a defective ice cream?

I did get a taker on my offer to pay for a membership. The application will be in the mail Monday. Don't really have a local kid at the moment that I am comfortable with.

Slumlord, you are most certainly a better fellow than your "name" indicates. That was very generous.
Now, I suppose I ought to get off my dead... er I ought to do something about my current deadbeat status.

Slumlord my hat goes off to you, I get tired of hearing all of the talk just so one can stroke ones ego to this group. What little I do behind the scenes and unfortunatly due to circumstances beyond my control it is not much and I prefer to keep it to myself. But I am extremly elated that you shared yours, you not only talk the talk you walked the walk and what an extremely honorable thing for you to do. We should all be very thankfull for your generosity I surely am but in know way could it be more so than for the recipient as you have truly touched his life in a very special way and one that he will never forget.

Yours Sincerely
John Louis

The recipient  has already paid it forward. If you've never seen the movie "Pay it Forward" I highly recommend it. I try to do something like this from time to time. Don't do it often enough. I have had members here go out of their way to do nice things for me. I only feel it is fair to continue the practice. The Slumlord handle is an inside joke. I have been a landlord for a long time. Try not to fit the "slumlord" image.

Just one member ........... The Journal is my favorite regular publication. Constantly at my side. Referenced numerous times during the month. Fine articles to learn from. Quality paper. Beautiful photos. I'd be delighted to pay an extra $10 - $15 annually just to see The Journal continued in its present form. Thanks to John Merz for being the driving force behind The Journal and thanks to the contributors who generously share their knowledge and experiences.

The key to volume is promotion.  Recently I've been seeing posts about how wonderful the ASSRA Journal is.  How about posting a sample.  I have no idea what the contents are.  Maybe an index of past issue articles and a regular update of the index of each current issue.

I'm a paid WACA member mainly because I can access all their past WINCHESTER COLLECTOR issues online on their site.

FWIW:  Abe Books is selling past issues of The Journal for $5 each:  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

ALSO:  on the WACA website, in addition to paid members being able to access all past COLLECTOR issues, only paid members can upload photos directly.  Non-members must upload via an "http" link.  Another incentive for paid membership.

Just sayin'   Wink
