I will compare this discussion to what's going on with the NRA and my own Illinois State Rifle Association. Millions of gun owners refuse to join and pay dues but have no problem reaping the benefits of continued 2nd Amendment  freedom that they provide. I occasionally pay for a membership to one of these organizations as a "pay it foreword"  kind of thing. Unfortunately I have no local acquaintances who have an interest. What I am willing to do is pay for one membership for an individual here that truly feels he cannot afford the dues. If I can help, feel free to send me a message and explain your situation. If I get more than one reply, first one wins.

I think I clarified it some.

Some forums have a minimum number of posts, not off topic, before the site allows that person to post on the for sale forum. The website could also take pure donations to help keep it going. Under the person's screen name could be the the simple line, 'supporting member'.

Forty dollars will buy ten scoops of ice cream at Kingston, Wa. That was at least five years ago.

Ten, ten scoops.

        Joe.

Ten scoops for Forty dollars, so Four dollars a scoop.
Was it ice cream, not ice milk but made with real cream, or 1/2 gallon size scoops?     Wink

A scoop of ice cream is extremely important. That's why it's so darn expensive.

There is one US firearms site I know of where the person running the site askes for a donation of $10.00 if a sale is made from advertising on his site. I think that is a reasonable charge and probably cheaper that an advert in the local paper would be. So if ASSRA asked for a similar charge, would anyone object? Ten sales a week at $10.00 a time would give ASSRA $5,200 a year, a sum that is likely to help the organisation.  Cool

I don't know where this idea came from but I want to state for the record that I do not and have never sent any of the extra copies that I get (all 10 of them) to anyone for the purpose of resale or in any way have I received money or consideration of any kind for magazines. Anyone who has proof that I have done so please step forward and prove it. If not, retract your statement.

I think what the intend of the thread was to encourage all that can to please make sure you renew membership or if you have ever thought about joining, this would be an excellent time to do so.  The association could certainly use your support at this crossroad on the financial side of the group.
If you would like to and could make a financial donation up and above your annual dues, I think it would be gladly accepted to get us over a budget crunch we have at the moment.  The thought if you were able to sell something because you were able to advertise it here on the forum and that you might wish to give a donation in turn for having this venue to advertise it on also would be again probably gladly accepted.
I don't think anyone is asking you if you are not able at this time financially to give until it hurts.  But on the other hand, if you like the ASSRA, you enjoy the nice magazine and like the discussions on line here, please help further if you can.

John Merz if that is what you are being accused of it is sad day indeed and they just don't simply understand your integrity as a caring individual who would never think of doing such a thing. It is one thing to disagree on certain issues as I have and continue to do but I still hold you in high regard as a person first and foremost and then for all you do for the organization you so Love. Unfounded accusations are totaly uncalled for and an apology would be in order as well as the retraction of the statement in my book.

  Well, let me explain.
I've been following this thread, and the next time I looked, it was gone, so I hit the "Last Post" button and there it was, back somewhere.
So, being the intrepid person I am; I posted the simple message "Odd" and the thread returned to the present.
Well, that looked odd so I deleted the post and the whole thread went back into the past! I then made the post "Very odd", and the thread returned to the present.
Possibly the answer is in the works of Lewis Carroll.

Yep, took a look and saw the thread had disappeared too (along with at least one other one).
Now it's back.
Software gremlins must be acting up again.

40 Rod,
I think a post or two may have disappeared from this particular thread as well.
Speaking for myself, I seem to recall the "magazine incident" being made in reference to a former editor?
