I don't want to go into any great detail at the moment but I was advised by a breech seater manufacturer that you should not use bullets harder than 25-1 in his breech seater.
Just off the top of my head I would have thought that nearly everybody would be using bullets that hard, or even harder.
Your thoughts ?.
Mike.

I use 20-1...I believe many do the same!
And with a Breech seater.

When I started I used 25:1 everybody did Pope used it so that’s what everybody used. With my bench gun now I use 20:1 and find that, for me I get tighter groups. Either way if your bullet is a proper fit to your throat it shouldn’t make any difference to the seater.

20-1 is very hard to seat in my rifles. When seating a Paul Jones bullet with it's very slight taper, is all a Weber breech seater can do.

I use 20-1 with  Weber, and Weber style seaters and have no problems.

I try to hold my mix between 20-1 and 16-1.
I use two different testers, a Cabine Tree and a Lee, and still have some problems keeping my mix the way I want it.

Depends on application.

20:1 is OFTEN quoted.

Here, I am hearing 16:1 by some GOOD shooters.

I like tin heavy alloys.

I do 20:1  Pb:Sn  and 11:1 WW:Sn

I'll have to move in on the 16:1 !

I use 22/1, I made the decision souly, just to get about 70 more bullets for my pound of tin, over 20/1.

The hardness differance on the BHN scale is 9.8 Vs 10. I'm not sure if it would show in accuracy and I haven't tested that.

Maybe I'm wasting 100% of my bullets, rather than getting 70 extra  Smiley

In the distant past, I had tested 25/1 Vs 30/1. In that test (one testing session), I got got better accuracy with the 30/1 but, after shooting it in matches, for about 6 months, my scores fell off. I went back to 25/1 and they picked up.

It takes longer term use to really know for sure and how well it works in your rifle.

One twenty pound pot per day would take 41 days.

I prefer casting as I need them.  I like to experiment too.

You cast 820 pounds of bullets or ingots?

Most of my pure lead is in plumbers ingots.

My bad... I thought you were talking about moulding bullets, not ingots.  Have to read much, more better.  Roll Eyes I usually do 15-20lbs when molding bullets.  Wears me out.

Both me and Chuck Lopas (may he rest in peace), preferred to have them still warm when we arrive at a match Smiley
