El Salvador Rolling Block question

Later in the week I'm going to be looking at a 1902 rolling block with the El Salvador crest. Did all of these have the grooved hand guard ? The one that I'm looking at does not have one. I can find little on this variant other than there weren't many that found their way to the US

The Remington Rolling Block Military Rifles of the World by George Layman shows a El Salvador 1902 rifle on page 182. In addition to the national crest on the receiver, there is a distinctive groove that runs down the middle of the handguard. Midway sales this book. Hope this is of Help. Bonner

I read the same, but some of the photos I've seen show them without the grooved handguard. Apparently some were replaced with non-grooved or not at all. The one I looked at was pitted at or below the woodline. Surprisingly the bore is in very good shape. Banged around a lot, but not shot much. Like a lot of military firearms, I guess. The M16 I carried in Iraq mostly just sucked up all of the dust in the GP medium tent I lived in. Smiley
