This a 56X52r .22 Savage Hipower. They were a high class outfitter in Salzburg. I wrote to them about 30 years ago to see if I could get any information on it. Basically they bought from small gun makers in the area. They reckoned it could of been built before WWI. Who knows. It shoots a treat.

I agree, but it could have been built (without the scope and mounting) after probably 1870. It's typical of rifles of that era.

Originally it would of had a the typical European claw mounts on a scope. I didn't have the scope. The old boy who lived next to me was a retired machinist and had a good set up in his shed. He made the mount, while I supplied the beer. Maybe that's why it took so long to make. But it is good. I take the scope off and when I put it back, it is right on the money.

The blocks for the scope mounts do appear that they were added at a later date possibly.
