What ever size gives you a while halo around the bull. It varies some with light conditions.

But donut holes don't have holes, so there wouldn't be a hole size for any distance... like a bead on a pole.

Believe that is called an "aperture" insert. Whatever works best for your particular set of eyes is the right size. I find the custom ones with a thick ring to work best for me. Distant Thunder made them up with three different aperture sizes to work in my large Parker-Hale globe front sight.

But the donut hole won't stay on the pole with a defining ring to identify the hole. Where would the hole be? How would you even know there was a donut hole on the pole? How do you know there isn't a hole inside a hole?

How many holes are in a donut hole's hole?
And if you set the hole on the pole, does it look like just a pole?
