Uberti rolling block carbine

About 12 years ago, I bought a Uberti .357 rolling block carbine. It is a handy little bugger. I would have preferred a .32-20, but oh well.

Does anyone else here have one?

Well, there seems to be no love for the Uberti RB.

What about the Star rolling block? I almost bought one in .30-30 about 20 years ago, but the deal fell through.

I'm looking at a Navy Arms .45-70 roller. Anyone own one of those?

A good many years ago I had a friend that owned both a Navy Arms roller and a H&R trapdoor carbine. We knew little of shooting 45-70, or any big time single shot rifles at the time, and he limited his ammunition to the factory lead bullets available at the time.
My recollection is that the H&R was far superior. Maybe the sights, or who knows, but we always preferred "getting" to be the one with the trapdoor in a contest. Plenty of fun was had back in them days. These were the guns that made me decide to buy my first single- a high wall that is still doing very nicely.

I didn't have any of the listed rifles but, I did have a Uberti RB Baby carbine in 25/20 WCF.

It shot very well for a factory rifle. I shot it breech seat and at 100 yards, it would shoot just over 1" with Unique and just under 1" with B'dot. One of the B'dot loads shot 4 of the 5 into .38"

I liked the little rifle and if I were a hunter, I would have kept it but, I couldn't bond with the 21" long, factory barrel so, I traded it off.

My H&R trapdoor consistently blew open till I modified it.

Rebel, I have heard of the H&R problem. For the life of me, I cannot recall this one ever doing so. If it did, maybe I would have liked the roller more, huh? Roll Eyes

I've got one at Beretta, being re-barreled. It came with a miscut chamber.

It was accurate, just ruined the brass.

Oh! Its a .30-30.

kytx, how was the chamber cut? I'm also curious if the wee action was prone to stretching the .30-30 brass.

The chamber looked like they had started out of alignment with the bore and then backed out and restarted.

You'd think the guy firing the proof loads would have noticed that.

I corresponded once with an Aussie who had a rimfire Uberti which the factory had botched. As I recall, the extractor was malformed, just where the firing pin was to strike the rim.

They are a very tidy little gun. I've long thought of getting a Hornet and converting it to one of the .25 Hornets. All the reports of so-so quality have kept me away.
