40-50 ss in stevens 44 1/2

I have been looking for a Hepburn action or rifle for a 40 cal.build but have not found one .
I have a Stevens 44 1/2 single set action and wonder if this would work as a 40-50 SS ?
Any thoughts ? Would use black and smokeless .

There was a Hepburn 'project' rifle on one of the internet selling websites a few days ago. Think it was Guns Inter'l. Wish I had some spare change laying around. If I did, you would be reading about it in my "look at my new Hepburn" thread. Wink

Steven offered the 44 1/2 in 30-40 krag/30 US and that is as big as a shell base that will work on the Stevens made 44 1/2 the CPA actions can go to the 45-70 shell base Ken

Years ago at a gun show, looked at a 44 1/2 in 38-55. Nice one. Seller told me to look very close at the chamber. Was split all the way past the throat.

If the 44 1/2 was chambered in 30-40 then it should work with 40-50 SS as that is the same case that is used is it not.
