new stock for a Swedish 1889 Rolling Block

Would like to explore  sources for  new butt and fore stock  for my 1889 Swedish Remington  #1  Rolling block rifle,  other than Tree Bone,  to get some comparisons.   In the "affordable" range. Can be 90%+ ready,  and does not need  to be fancy wood,  Straight grip. Any suggestions welcome.  I do not have the skills or ambition to start with a blank though. Thank you,  WB

Water Bug,

Check with Kenn Womack at (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) he has a good supply of replacement stocks. CPA has various patterns available as does Dave Crosnoe.

Check with Gunstocksinc. I'd never tried them before, but needed an affordable plain grain buttstock for a #1 Sporting Rifle last fall. They sold me a nice 90% buttstock for $62 shipped to me. They have higher grade also, but unsure of the price. Very fast delivery too! Had it in a week.

Just last week I received a buttstock and 2 forends from (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) for my #1 rolling block.
I ordered the standard wood and got nice looking walnut and they all match.
The inletting is pretty darn close and the outside is oversize enough to give you something to work with.
Shipping was within a couple of days of ordering.

THANK YOU ALL , for the help,  I will check the sources.  Schuetzendave, I see you have a telescope on your rifle,  please tell me the details of the mounts  and attaching them . That could solve another problem , as my receiver is case hardened,  so I thought I would have great difficulty in  making and taping screw holes for a tang sight.  A telescope would be good for my eyes too.  WB

This is the buttstock I got from Gunstocks Inc. They come inletted for military Rolling Blocks, with equal length tangs, so I had to lengthen the channel for my longer lower tang. But as mentioned above, they have close inletting to the metal, and enough wood to work with externally. A bargain for the price.

Schuetzendave,   Did the CPA butt stock with pistol grip, require bending the lower tang, or was it inletted  straight?  Thanks,  WB

Schuetzendave, BEAUTIFUL Remington RB ' s ,  WOW.  They inspire me  to  get mine to look even nearly that good.  Please describe a forster jig.  And can you  suggest any gunsmiths  in Eastern USA?  ALSO: Is the butt stock from CPA able to  accommodate the action tangs without having then bent? Thanks, WB

One place where D&T a casehardened tang creates problems is the internal side of the tang! I've seen more than one person drill through without a problem; only to snap the bit off as it's exiting the bottom side where the surface is hard again.
