I've gotten pretty good accuracy out of my 32-20 WCF at 200 yds. with 4227 and a 135 grain bullet based on the Lyman 30 carbine.  Don't know how it would do on rams.  Probably knock the 22rf variety for a loop.

JS47,

I keep thinking about essentially that same load and bullet but, not at all confident it will shoot small enough groups with that bullet through a twist of 20/1 or 22/1. What twist does your rifle have??

I am considering same bullet in a 13/1 twist, propelled by Swiss 2,0F or 1,5F.

Thanks,
Grisen

If you come up later this month you'll probably see me there!  I wont be shooting because I don't have an appropriate gun but I'll go to check it out.

I'll bet they will let you shoot about anything you want with soft bullets (got a 30-30 levergun?). You just won't get to count your score for the win, place or show.

Keep meaning to get down to either the Fairfax or Cavalier ram bash, but time keeps getting away from me.

32 with plain base bullets is allowed in the Ram Bash matches. Some 32's are used but they don't win.  Over the years, and I have shot that match since 1993, 38/55 wins more than anything else.

Reason is its scored by the off relay 2 scopes to a target.  Relay shooting may have 3-4 shooters on the same target. It's well painted starting  get with good shooters end of the 10 shot relay it has well over 30 strikes, 32's just don't do much when they hit and hits can me overlooked.  Pow Clang & see a paint chip you get a hit. Pow no Clang and can't find a chip no x on the scorecard.

On the other side bigger cartridges take a toll on the shooter and generally don't have scores as high. Although lot of matches have been won with  45/70s

Final factor is 38s 40s 45s are useful for falling target matches and more people have them.

Yesterday Cavaliers Ram Bash was won in cold windy conditions with a 38 hit score, and a 38/55 CPA. No doubt about it best offhand shooters in the Mid Atlantic shoot this match, no room for misses due to caliber.

P/s lever guns are allowed if plain base lead. Some of us use our NRA Lever silhouette guns as pratice for the falling target 200 Ram.  I don't think a lever action has ever won the match. Close no wins.

I should explain two Virginia clubs run the Monthly Ram Bash Fairfax and Cavalier 75 miles apart. Same rules same targets.   Two more monthly Ram bashes Rimfire scaled targets, same visual. Scores rimfire almost always the same as CF

You need two High Walls ! I use a switch barrel CPA

Boats,
Please excuse my correction but a lever has won the CAV Rambash. I have the pins to prove it!

I stand corrected !  It was a 38/55 Lever and handled by a Master Class Silhouette Shooter.

I have a 24" brl Contender in 32 H&R Mag. I use it as my off hand schuetzen rifle. Last year I took it to a Cast bullet silhouette match With 180gr bullets and a load of Accurate #9, it WOULD NOT take the rams down. Also, I ran out of scope adjustment and had to hold about a rams height (belly to back) above my target. Setting the targets properly is very important. If your target setters follow IHMSA or NRA rules, the rams feet should hang 1/3 width off the back of their stands. Set full width I've rung them with all kinds of calibers including a full length 308 with 165gr bullets.
