Only quick way I have to measure inside necks is with dial calipers. Close enough. Seldom measure the outside diameter.

I will be interested in how it shoots when done. I am currently shooting a NEI 165gr stop ring. It cast .316 ahead of the stop ring useing 25 to 1 alloy.
Frank what are you useing for a breach seating tool in your system Will.

Think maybe I need to make a new one. Looking a bit shabby.   Embarrassed

Just took careful measurements of bullets from my new Buffalo Arms stop ring mould and got .310 for the nose in front of the first groove, .316 for the first band, .330 for the stop ring, and .316 again for all the other bands. Got the brass out and have some loading to do for my 2 rifles. Results to follow (when the snow melts off the range).

It dawned on me that I trimmed my brass to 46 mm BEFORE fire forming.  Of course, it shrank and due to the tapered neck the ID is larger.  My next FF will be with brass trimmed to barely seat, at 50 mm.  I think the ID will be much closer to what it should be.
The mold is ordered from Accurate and will be here in a couple of weeks.

Hello
I want to order a stop ring from Accurate molds. I get the following measurements. Bore .304, grove .313, inside case .327, outside case .350, case length 1.845 (46.8 mm). I think I should trim cases to about 1.83. Any help on mold ring sizes appreciated.

Mike, that doesn't sound quite right. It's like your inside and ouside caseneck diameters are about .010 too large for your bore. Check the outside diameters of my cases I reported above and that the groove diameter bullets are a snug slip fit in the necks. It sounds like your bullets would be rattling around in the necks.

I was surprised at the measurements also, this is a Original Meister nitro proofed in 1928 so it should be a 8.15x46 normal. There are no signs of wash out in the chamber & the rifle over all is very good shape. I have the NEI mold and it shoots well in a couple of other rifles. I also have an as new system Will, but the stock does not fit me well. I may chuck the idea of shooting the Meister & order a mold to fit the system Will rifle.
Thanks Mike

Sorry for the late reply.  Your bore and chamber diameters do seem off.  Did you make a pound cast of your throat, and a good slug of the bore?  My pound cast dictated the size of the stop ring, as I wanted a tight fit into the leade.  If using reformed brass be sure to  trim to maximum length and fire form twice before trimming any shorter.  The cases will shorten as they form to the chamber.  Then trim the case so that it will just chamber with thumb pressure and the block will do the rest.
FWIW Frank give me good advice on dimensions.
