Schoyen & Peterson Powder Measure

I know many of you collectors and shooters also collect period appropriate reloading tools.  Many of us have an Iseal No.5 or No.6 mounted to a bookshelf or in a shooter's kit.  Vintage reloading tools are always fun to pick up at gun shows and occasionally on forums just like this one.

I was given the opportunity to buy this powder measure by Schoyen & Peterson years ago.  A year or two later I bought a Sharps Borchardt with a heavy Schoyen false muzzle barrel.  ... and since then I've also added a Schoyen re- and decapper and bullet mould in the same caliber as the rifle.  All I need is a bullet-lube pump.  It took a few years to get all these things together, but that's part of the fun for a collector !

Absolutely stunning! Love the Schoyen, and the tools also! I try my best to collect them, but they seem to never show up around my area. I've got a few original Ballard tools, and a few by other makers. Last summer I was offered a Pope false muzzle starter, and bought it, although I don't own a Pope rifle. (yet! Maybe soon!)
I love the accessories and tools as much as the guns!

Damn it, there's enough beauty there to make even a miserable old crusty curmudgeon like me weep.  Cry

Very nice and rare powder measure. I have always liked the look of the Schoyen / Peterson duplex measure. I got a chance to examine one years ago after Uncle Charlie McNett bought one at auction. They are beautiful and very well made.

I have wanted one for a long time. And I made a big mistake a long time ago at the Denver show John Dutcher offered me one at the end of the show. I had bought a few things and was low on cash. I had been looking at it all show and the price was just out of my reach I think he wanted about a $1000 at the show it was not on his table. He came by my table with it and told me he would make me a very good deal on it since I was lusting after it so much. My  mistake was not to ask how much and just pass on it. A month or 2 later it was in the Journal for sale the price $500 which at the time of the show I had. I called him but it was sold before the  journal had mailed. on to the next question where is the tooling to make these Dutcher had it and sold it I think Quinlan told me he had sold it 2 times and saw it for sale a 3rd time at a gun show in Texas.    Ken

Just this morning I was I saw quite an accumulation of amazing schuetzen era reloading tools and rifles.  They belong to the son of the deceased man that acquired them and are stored in a fallen down old shed.  He is wanting to sell them.  I wonder what the best way to go about marketing them is?

Schuetzen rifles in a run down shed? Yikes!!!!
Would hope he might consider taking it all indoors, before any damage (or more damage!) occurs!
Would also hope he'll consider selling them here in the F/S section. Lots of interested buyers here, for sure!

Thanks guys. Some of the best eye candy I have seen and in a short thread too.

Thanks Joe Do for all the work you have done helping others to dispose of estates, such as Michael Petrov and John Wills. Thanks to your work I have been able to add a few pieces to my own collection.

I noticed that the barrel on the borchardt still has mill
marks. I sure would have thought that George Schoyen
Would have draw filed the flats on that barrel.

Regarding the mill marks on the Borchardt barrel, you are correct.  The top three flats still have mill marks but the other five flats have been filed and polished.  This is similar to Winchester for matting purposes to reduce glare ... except that Winchester did this intentionally and Schoyen did it a "more economical" way.
