Denver and my latest find

The show was outstanding this year and I thought I was going to get out without purchasing a firearm...  Huh  had three in my sights but managed to talk myself out them.  Then, just as we were planning to leave we were making our rounds to say our farewells to friends, old and new - I stumbled...  sitting on a table a rifle unlike any I've seen before, in a 45-70, fairly good shape, besides the unique action - twist open - a gain twist in excellent shape -  a rifle by J. Rupertus     Smiley.
I was going to wait and post this until I could confirm more on the twist.  slugging it measures .457, the twist appears to start at virtually zero, which I think is extreme, and the exit is close to 1:16 or 17.  It's a 30" barrel and the finish under the forearm appears to be a soft brown rather than any blue color.  The metal to wood fit is ok - needs a tiny but of work, the spring that holds the barrel lock needs some attention but after that it needs to be shot.
There was some discussion on this forum a few years ago about these rifles, how did it shoot?

Jacob Rupertus' revolvers, especially his pepperbox, are quite well known, but the long arms are rare.  The action was covered by US Patent 209925, granted 11/12/1878, and when seen at all is most often part of a shotgun; indeed, that's the way it's illustrated in the patent papers.  In any case, very great find, GT!

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Saw Greg's Rupertis at the show and it is really a neat gun with a gorgeous bore!

Not familiar with that one at all- interesting, and nice looking too.
I can't figger a way that something pivoted like that would stay tight. So, does it have a way to compensate for wear?
I'm looking forward to the shooting results. I like it.  Smiley

Greg,
You'll have to talk with Rodney about that one.  I believe he is working on a set of castings for that one.

I was hoping so, if not I'm going to make one from scratch. Should see him in a couple weeks.

Bruce, I got that last Fraser from David, it looks real good!  Thanks for the heads up on that one.  Smiley

Should be fun with Rodney.  I figured you’d enjoy the Fraser.  That’s quite an action.  My last one is out for engraving.  I’m excited to see what it looks like when finished.
