	I own a few Ballards but, am not a collector. If Ballard made sights for Steven, it could have been made by Ballard? One clue is this: SCREW HOLES ARE 1 1/2" CENTER Ballards are 1 1/8" The nob looks like my widgage front, that's supposed to be Ballard. Frank

	I didn't even pay attention to his description of 1 1/2 inch center to center. I knew that marlin and Ballard's are 1 1/8 inch.

	Sure looks a lot like a Ballard sight to me according to Stroebel's book except for the hole spacing question. Stevens has the 1.5" spacing but they look different.

	The staff does look like a Ballard staff, but the base is too new, and even if the spacing was correct for a Ballard, it doesn't look like any of mine. I've got 4-5 Marlin midrange tang sights, and none look like that base. I think someone is swapping parts to build a sight.

	I sent a message to the seller to tell him it was not an original Marlin sight. His response was, "I took it off an 1881 Marlin" I told him I've owned a dozen 1881 Marlins, and never seen any Marlin that wasn't 1.125" spacing. I would suspect if it came off an 1881 that there would be 3 holes in the top tang for sights.
