Borchardt DST....

I am getting alot of requests on where my DST's came from.  Joe Lozito had about 10 DST's made up afew years ago. All EDM cut and very precise. I paid $500.00 just for the DST, then the fitting came in to get set in action. I got the last set and didnt bat an eye to pay it out. I wanted to build a Zischang inn 32 Ideal. It is all coming together and 5+ years to get it done if the gun is ready by Spring. The price so far...alot!
Argus Barket  did the fitting of parts missing and did a great job milling out the side panels. There is A slight cut in front panel and a set screw that pushes the wood forward to lock in place. You have to remove stock to acces set screws, very nice.
Joe did a great job in fitting these superb DST. He installed the RKS Barrel and with my reamer , chambered it. Everything as perfect as you can get. His idea to send me the barreled axction to have wood fitted, then send back to Joe for final CC and blueing and tuning of triggers. His arthritis was getting so bad he was just trying to finish the jobs he had and the wood would of taken way to long.
A month after getting metal, Joe had a heart attack and passed on. I spent the Spring last year going over the action to get it all to work, actually shot it at our Montana Match.
The original stock Gail did turned out now to be to short for the DST's, so I had to glue in a 3/4" block in front and cut out wood by hook to fit me. Bondo'd the pistol grip for DST...now I have my pattern to duplicate.Did the deep hole boring also.
Once I have the gun complete I happen to know A friend that does EDM, maybe it can work out to have some DST's made up in the future...maybe. Any questions ask away. Thanks, Pete

The rear tang with ears, Argus Barker made. Notice the thru bolt stud, I copied off the Miller. Now if by chance I screwed up the thread the stud can be replaced instead of rethreading receiver.Pete

It's a rather sad coincidence, but the three gunsmiths who actually have made and supplied Zischang style DST's (albeit in limited numbers) have all passed over in the last two years. John Wills, Frank Zika and Joe Lozito. All men very highly respected for their metalworking skills.
There is a need for someone to pick up their dropped torch and carry on where they left off.

Harry.

I have an Argus Barker Borchardt with double sets that Argus copied from a Schoyen. Those triggers are the best double sets that I have.

40 Rod. Argus did not want to install the DST, maybe he did not have a set at the time ready, but he did say they were a Bear to fine tune, so he declined. that is when I got action back and went to Joe. Pete

My friend, Shon Eychanor, made mine for me.  They are great and he is a great machinist.  Ron Long finally consented and sent me his last db. set Zischang style Borchardt action and Shon basically copied it, talking to Ron along the way, and made extra sets of Schuetzen levers, etc...  He then barreled and finished the stock on the 32-40 he made for me and now he is finishing the .22 rimfire Zischang Borchardt with eccentric bore.  I think I'm the only kid on my block with a pair!

If I can get around to it I will try and post photos when the .22 is finished.

Glad to see the interest in Zischang set triggers.
I was finally able to find and buy a Zischang Borchardt rifle with set triggers  for a pattern and it is a 22 rf conversion to boot!  Westerner has seen the rifle at the Butte Jim Geer match.
I am planning to start producing these triggers and installing them for customers.
I have not completed a set as yet, so do not have a price for them .  will post more info as I get closer to being ready to have them available.

OT but, how about someone producing a schuetzen lever?

I'm happy with my trigger but, would love to have finger or ball and spur lever. Nicer to open the action, too Smiley

Doe s anybody recognize who may have made these Borchardt triggers?  They are numbered to the rifle like it may have been somebody working on multiple sets.  Bob
