Lead Melting Furnaces

I've decided to give up the Coleman Stove and iron pot for making cast bullets.  I want to get a good electric furnace.  I saw where some like the Lyman Mag 25 unit.  Anyone have a good recommendation on a good furnace to buy?
Thanks,
Mike.

I'd say the first thing is to decide what type of casting you are going to do. Seems like when I pour into single cavity moulds I generally use a ladle. When I use a multiple cavity mould I use a bottom pour pot.
I have three pots, a Lyman 20lb Magdipper for ladle casting. A 20 lb RCBS bottom pour furnace for multiple cavity work. A Lee 20 lb bottom pour (leaker) for soft lead work.  My Lyman gets worked about 75% of the time.
I hope this helped some.

I'm happy with my Lyman 20#.  I suppose I would be happy with the other brands too.  I hand dip.

Thanks.  I plan to cast mostly single cavity 45 and 38 cal rifle bullets.

I recently had my 18 yr old Rapine pot die on me.  Really liked it.  I plan on getting one of the 20lb pots that Buffalo Arms sells, but picked up a Lyman Mag Dipper to use in the meantime. Just barely holds 11 lbs, but by using a thermometer in the melt, it is doing a fine job for a $50 furnace.  I only ladle pour.

I bought a Lyman 20 pound mag dipper for 80.00 dollars back in 1986. It died prematurely in 2008. It didn't last long but I really liked it. Using a Lee 20 pounder now. Makes a lot of weird noises but works good and was a lot less money than the new Lyman mag dipper with the over inflated price tag. Lyman said they would repair it for free but the shipping was more than a new Lee pot.

+1 on the Wagge.  Here's a pretty good review on pots:

Both my neighbor and I bought the Lyman pot.  They're inexpensive and so far working well.  Be prepared to adjust the thermostat, they don't do it correctly at the factory in China. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Do the current models still have an adjustment under the temp setting knob?
