Anyone thought of doing a do-it-yourself design in WOOD?

Yes, but drilling 45 holes in a block of wood would be quite clumsy. An egg crate design with light 1/8" material would be better, but time consuming and maybe a bit fragile.

You mean like this?   The only problem is that I have never used it because I don't want it to get all greasy and dirty Smiley

That's funny Jack.  I save the boxes that Woody made for me for matches.  I don't want to ruin them by using them every week in practice Smiley.

I suppose that is a reason to make your own uglier boxes.  As I am a computer programmer I can easy make low quality wooden boxes Smiley.

This is one of mine, made from a $5 cigar box, piece of walnut slab, drilled holes, added some hardware.

Richard,

That box would hold quite a few $5.00 cigars !

Nice job Richard.  What are the outside dimensions of the box?

For anyone wanting to build their own box. I do have the layout of the hole pattern to hold 100 rounds. The internal size is 11X11.  If anyone wants the print feel free to contact me and I can send it as a PDF. Do keep in mind that this layout was designed for a 44-77. The proper hole size for a 45-70 would be 5/8 or .625.  Not the .687 on the print.

Sorry for the delay, had to work today. The box outside dimensions are 10.5" wide; 8.75" deep ; 4.5" high.
The store where I buy most of my cigars have empty boxes for sale. Most are not heavy enough, but this one works well. Those 5$ + cigars are mighty fine along with a sample of single malt scotch. Wink

I think that doing a home-made ammo carrier for matches is in order.  Have to design several (different calibers and quantities).  Should fit into other shooting boxes taken to each of the different matches.

hmmmm.
