I had cataract surgery in 2011. Right eye one week and left eye the next week.  Opted for the toric lenses. Wore glasses most of my life.  Now only wear glasses for reading and close-up. Never had a problem.  Rear sight aperture edges little fuzzy, but front sights and targets clear.  Same way with scope's (Unertl & Lyman) crosshairs.

Never mind the mule. Just load the wagon.

A very interesting and educational thread!
I am going in on Feb. 8th. for cataract surgery on my right eye, the left one is still O.K., with just a very small amount of clouding on the upper portion of the lens.
Has anyone addressed the affect of recoil with their eye surgeon?
While not single shots, I wonder if I'll be able to shoot my .338 Win. Mag. and my .505 Gibbs after healing up after surgery.
My eye surgeon had never heard of either of those calibers, so probably has no idea...

They told me not to shoot for a month or 2 20 years ago.  Never shot any of those big guns.  Limited it to little things like 45-100 with 550 grain LR bullets  Roll Eyes

Well, that tells me that recoil might not be an issue, I doubt that the surgeon ever heard of a .45-100 either...

It should not be, but the dr will tell you how long.

Word from my cataract surgeon yesterday, during day after surgery check up, was "After one week you can do whatever vigerous physical activity you normally do". That would be cross country skiing for me. We did not talk about rifles of any kind or stuff like boxing or banging heads.

So far, two days after surgery, vision in eye is improving steadily and now is similar to or better than that of my previous "best" eye. Happily, bad wrinkle in retina is now down to a very modest "bend". Astigmatism may be totally gone. Happiness!, with reason to think there is more to come.

Well, I went in the 8th., the prep time took much longer than the surgery, the biggest pain I felt was when the poked the IV needle into the back of my hand, and that wasn't bad at all.

Back today for check up, the Dr. said I can go back to regular activities, and also got fitted for new glasses also.

I asked if he had ever heard of a lens popping out from recoil or anything, and he said that no, but he had seen things like that from getting hit in the face with deployed airbags..

He also said to try and avoid letting the scope hit me in the eyebrow.....

Well Rick, I'm glad to hear that yer doin' swell. It sounds like both got done on the single visit of the 8th?
But, did you need a doctor to tell you not to get hit in the head?

I only had my right eye done, the left is still O.K., with just a little bit of clouding on the upper part of the lens.

I think the left one is still a few years down the road.

And, no, I didn't need the Dr. to tell me not to get hit in the eyebrow by the scope. Smiley

I did that once, when I was around eight or so, with the first shot from my dads new .308, learned quick that you couldn't sneak up on the scope like you could on my .22....
