Looking for something to use on an old sling that will preserve it without harming the patina.  I have Pecards that has been recommended before but have not tried it yet. What do you guys use on your old leather?

I've found Pecard Antique Leather Care to be outstanding. I doubt you will find anything better.

All good suggestions, as well as Neatsfoot oil (not neatsfoot oil compound) and mink oil as well as saddle soap. Neatsfoot oil compound has metallic salts in it which will attack and eventually decompose natural fiber threads used in stitching, such as linen. Straight pure neatsfoot oil, which is kind of hard to find now, won't.

Tandy Leather will have pure neatsfoot oil.

Neatsfoot oil, Mink oil and some of the others will darken older leather considerably. Lexol and probably Pecards less so. Would lightly clean with saddle soap first then test it before getting carried away.

There was an article by Croft Barker in Single Shot Exchange magazine some time ago that advocated using olive oil, such as used in cooking, as a leather rejuvenator and preservative, with supposedly good results.  I haven't tried it myself though, but if I were you I would use what is already available.  I'm afraid my dog would find the olive oil a little too tempting.

I would be a bit leery of using any oil like olive oil that can go rancid.
