Wonder if that K&P is Bo Clerkes old shop?                                     Someone once told me, the barrel had to be plated with a mild steel & then dip or rust blue as usual. You could also nickel plate & then dye it black, as in "black chrome", holds up on car trim why not a gun barrel?            ...MIKE...

Re: Painting -- while I have not yet painted a barrel, I've been
researching this topic for some time.  I have an SS Bartlein on
a SS that needs to be blued/etc. for a more traditional appearance.   

I've read several accounts that coating the painted barrel 
with flat clear spray lacquer (Krylon, Rustoleum, etc.)
greatly improved the durability od the paint over time.
