	I'm wanting to use a reduced load for my Hornet to hunt squirrels. Any suggestions? Looking for something in the 22lr power or maybe a bit more. It's a Savage model 40 bolt gun and has (I believe) a 1 in 14 twist. I learned years ago you guys know just about everything so I figured this would be the place to ask.

	11.9 to 12.2 grains of 1680, 40 hr. BUllet.

	I assume your planning on using cast bullets? Do you have any .22 moulds now?

	In a K-Hornet with 225438 GC in Linotype 10.3 gn of 1680 or 8.5 gn of 4227 are soft shooting.

I won't be buying a mold, I probably won't shoot enogh cast to justify it. I found a source on line for cast bullets with a gas check which I'll probably have to use for squirrels. Of course if I hit them in the head I guess it really doesn't matter which bullet/load I use other than the noise which I'd rather keep down. I used to hunt the rascals with a .50 muzzleloader and as long as I hit them in the head it was OK. I appreciate your responses.

	In the past I used Ideal 225107 (37grains+/-) with 3 grains Unique. In my 1949 Brno Hornet it was accurate and effective. This was 40 years ago so I can't be sure of the velocity but I think it was around 1400. I guess I had better dig that Hornet out and try it again.

	3.0 gains of bullseye and a 40 grain v-max bullet tuns out to be a mild and accurate load.

	My Hornet really likes the Lee Bator bullet over 6 grains 2400, small pistol primer. 1/2" at 50 yds., a skinch over 1" at 100. I never chrono'ed the load but it performs much like a .22WRM.

	Lyman 225438 of about 50/50 WW & lino pushed by 3 grains of Bullseye or WW231 will give good performance in a velocity range midway between the WMR and LRHV. The hard alloy will help minimize the splat factor, as will the round nose. Have been fire forming for a K-Hornet with 3.5 gr of WW231 and get about 1700 fps and 1" groups @ 50 yards from a rest.

	Winchester .22 magnum projectile, 10 grains w296 Winchester small rifle primers Velocity is a tad over 2400 fps in my 20" heavy barrelled martini cadet accuracy is sub moa. That is my number one rabbit rifle, out to about 150 yds.
