got this in the mail today, been a long time since it was started.

Gotta say thanks to my dad, Westerner for all his help and labor, and for selling me the rifle.

Also thanks to Chuck Boardman who gave me the front sight and blued the barrel.

Thanks to cpa as well for cutting my wood and finishing and fitting it.

Here she be;

Thanks slumlord, The rifle is in 32/40 ballard.

When dad test fired the rifle after he re barreled it, it put the first 4 or 5 shots in the 25 ring Fritz. It should shoot just as well now I reckon. But I'm not as good a shot as dad....

Beautiful rifle, John. Did Joe supply the wood to be turned, too?

Hey Frank! Thanks.

Yeah, dad supplied the action, barrel, wood, and rear sight.

He also barreled the action and he and I profiled the barrel.

The wood is an old piece he cut down before I was born, from kennewick wa. It was a fairly plain peice but it came out better than I had ever expected. I had no idea it would have the color and contrast it has.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Okay.  John wanted a 44 1/2. Told me the action is the best ever made for SS target shooting. Who could argue that? John dug through the wood pile and picked out his wood. The wood came from a large Black Walnut I cut down in Dayton, WA way back in 1976. Barrel is a Green Mountain 14 twist .32. Chamber is 32-40 straight taper style. Triggers and lower tang are CPA. The rifle shoots my Hoch Pope style bullet very well.
Johns choice of the Stevens #51 was a good one. CPA did a great job finishing it up.

I'm a proud dad, you bet!  Smiley

Ahh it was dayton, don't know why I thought it was kennewick/finley.

And I still think the 44 1/2 may be the best traditional single shot. I'm not as opinionated anymore however. So they're all great!

Thanks Vall. I've always loved the perch belly straight grip stocks, to me they just look classy I guess.
