Firing Pin for Axtell Model 1877

Guys ...

I have an Axtell No.2 Long Range Creedmoor rifle delivered in Nov, 1997.  I was out shooting yesterday but the firing pin is making shallow dents and only 3/4 cartridges are firing. I tested the cartridges that didn't fire in another rifle and they worked fine, so it's not the primer.

Where do I go for a new firing pin?

Any help is appreciated ...
Joe

Joe, have you checked the FP channel for dirt or powder/primer residue. It may just need the passageway in the BB cleaning out. Five minutes of your time is a lot cheaper than a new FP. Smiley

Joe,
before you start spending cash, remove the firing pin and check the inside is clear of any possible dirt or powder fouling. Five minutes of your time is cheaper than a new firing pin. It is handy to have a spare though.  Undecided

Thanks Harry.  I remove the breech block and the firing pin and cleaned them up.  There was a little fouling, but not enough to hold up the firing pin or to prevent it from from striking a little deeper.

I was told Shiloh Sharps bought the original tooling and equipment from Axtell.  I called them yesterday and the woman I spoke to said parts would not be available until after the new year.  ... and there could be changes from the Axtell rifle.

I will try to find Carmen and see if she has any leftover parts.

Thanks again,
Joe D

1st check firing pin protrusion  - I wouldn't be too sure it's the firing pin.  Could be the mainspring, or headspace or...  Firing pins don't get shorter from firing unless damaged.
