	There are varied opinions in regards to tapered bullets versus cylindrical bullets with the later being my preferred design but I fear my reasoning would only distract you from working with the bullet you have on hand. In regards to the bullet being perfectly round I have yet to see one as it is quite typical for it to be slightly larger at the parting line. When you say a portion of the baseband is under bore diameter did you really mean to say that it is under the groove diameter as it would make a big difference on how one would address that question. 	Tapered bullets are the norm for breech seating, in our sport. they can also work fixed if, the rifle is throated, so that just the base band is in the case mouth. The main reason that we use bullets that are tapered is, that when breech seated, they will be installed with little to no distortion. The taper also helps with insuring that the bullet gets installed on center. Most bullets have .002 - .004 taper. Frank

	I might add that not knowing if your freebore diameter is slightly larger than your groove diameter you might be better served to seat your bullet just shy of engraving completly through the baseband. The reasoning is you do not want the base of the bullet to bump up and then have to be swagged back down. The other is being that your bullet is tapered and the base is at groove diameter you do not want any gas going past the smaller tapered portion just ahead of the base should your freebore indeed be slightly larger than your groove. The way to check to see if you have a positive gas seal is to seat a bullet, and then pop a primed case ( no powder! ) count off 15 or 20 seconds open the breach and the trapped gas should push the case out of the chamber. ( do not stand behind it! ) I had one come flying out once that dang near put a hole in my garage door 10ft. away. Then gently push out the seated bullet with your cleaning rod and look to see if have any black soot going down the side of the bullet / gas leaking past the base. If so this could cause gas cutting of the bullet and possibly leading of the bore and or affect accuracy. I hope this is helpful in also addressing your concerning questions. JLouis

That's a great idea! I sent away for a breech seater today, so I anticipate it may be awhile before I can shoot the rifle or try out your idea. I'm watching youtubes to try to figure out what other equipment needs I might have. I can rough it of course, at first, taking powder measure and tools for decapping recapping the case, once I receive the breech seater. I think I might try to make a sort of wooden "range box" with provision for a rifle rest, and a projection to securely hold the powder measure. I've seen guys with tall tripods that they seem to rest their rifles on so they don't have to stoop over to pick them up I guess. Maybe it helps with other aspects I hadn't thought of. I have no desire to spend money needlessly, just thinking ahead for items that will make my life easier. Thanks most sincerely for the generosity of those who offer their wisdom, of which I really have little in this sport. Oh. Also in respect to your followup question at the top of the page you are right. I meant to say groove diameter. Sorry about that.
