I acquired the same one with a 20X STS I purchased last year.

Never had the need to use it yet.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

What's the reasoning for having a sun shade long enough to extend past the muzzle? Or longer than about 4"?

It would be to eliminate any mirage coming off the barrel.

But sticking out over the end of the muzzle it will change the trajectory of the shot.

How so John? Are you referring to Mann's plank shooting tests.

I would think anything near the muzzle blast would have an affect on the bullet exiting the muzzle.

As mounted on the Ballard, when the scope is pulled back to correct eye relief, looks like the end of the scope will be almost even with the muzzle. Doubt it would effect the bullet with the shade hanging over.

Whats with the huge pictures on this forum?  I had the same problem last time I tried to post a picture. Was only 61KB but huge like Wills picture.

I've been using a battery-powered fan for military matches where long strings heat the barrel.  It does a good job of keeping the barrel heat mirage down.  But barrel mirage is not a problem with my #5 barrel 32-20...

A fat fingered foreigner, a rebar barrel, all kinds of junk hanging off the end of the barrel and the scope held on by Bazooka bubble gum. He seems to do okay with all that.  Maybe the stuff overhanging the barrel effects trajectory. The same for each shot?

My apology for the huge picture. File is well within the size limit. Still 500KB, I assume?
Er, ongoing ciphering.............. picture appears huge because I have to have the page magnified to read the print??  Could be.  Sad

I couldn't get it to do that a few days ago. Had the file down to 61KB but was still huge.  Okay, worky now.
