28-30 Stevens have not been made for a spell.

My other oddballs are 8x60R Guedes & Kropatschek and 8x50R Siamese.  The latter is for the early Siamese bolt action but complicated to make.

Hmmm,

.43 Mauser
.25-20 Stevens
.25-21 Stevens
.32 Ideal
.28-30 whenever I get around to mounting the barrel I've got.
.38 S&W
.38/200 (the WW2 Webley round)
.32 Colt, both short and long
.22 Harwood Hornet, but that's really a wildcat, never was a factory round
.22 Lovell R2
.219 Zipper
.303 Savage  (not in single shots, though)

Basically, if factory ammo is still available, I lose interest quickly.

I was thinking about obsolete cotteridges; has anyone ever built a single shot rifle in 7.62X39? A Ruger would be a likely candidate 'cause it will work with rimless calibers.

30/30 Wesson and 32/35 Stevens. Try to find brass for that one.

Oh, yes, I do have a 303 Savage, also.

Schutzenbob, there was an article I believe in one of the gun digests or precision shooting where they had one of the sako rifles which was a single shot chambered for the 6mmppc cartridge. They removed the origional barrel and installed on chambered for the 7.62x39 cartridge. Was said to be very accurate. But something also in the article (CRS) about ball seat and throat diameter being chosen. Frank

Cartridge on the far left is a recreation of the 42-100 Wesson using 25 2.6 braas.  The original was a bit too long in the case in my opinion. It actually uses about 90 ish grains of 1F.

I have a Shiloh and a CPA chambered in it. I sort of took a hiatus from shooting, but am getting back into it.  Before I took a break, the 42-100 was looking promising.

I am going to use my Shiloh for a buffalo eventually.

I probably have 1-2 calibers that are not obsolete, that I reload for. Everything else is an obsolete caliber. Some are very easy to form from a parent case, or buying new brass. Others are tough to get started out reloading, as no parent case, and brass is either hard to find, or very spendy.

Dave

the guy that rebored my barrel for the 42 wesson made it so rough I could never shoot it without it becoming a coating of lead. even after numerous attempts to lap it.

finally had Rick K make me a paper patch mould and that is looking real promising. Taking it to a 1000 yd shoot today for a friend to shoot. will see how it goes.

Wife's rifle is a Stevens 044 1/2 DST in 28-30-120 original chamber, I hunt with a Swiss martini DST chambered for 9.3x53 Swiss, unaltered rifle.

I forgot to add .450 Boxer-Henry Long to my list.

IIRC, I have seen a Ruger #3 in 7.62x39.

My list includes:
.577 Snider
.43 Mauser
.310 Martini Cadet
.50/70 Govt
8x50R Austrian
8x50R Lebel
8mm Lebel pistol
9mm Steyr
7.5mm Swiss revolver
6.5 Dutch
.45 Autorim (in shaved .455 Webley Mk VI)

Some of these are available once in a while but are generally not, so I usually need to roll my own.
